At GSI, a financial review is far more than a box-ticking exercise. It’s a realignment of your plan with your life — a meaningful check-in that keeps your financial future on track, and your peace of mind intact.
Here’s what really happens in a proper review, and why it might be one of the most valuable hours you spend each year.
-
We Review Your Life — Not Just Your Investments
Before we talk about portfolios or pensions, we start with you.
At GSI, your life is the plan — your goals, your circumstances, and your priorities. The investments, tax wrappers and financial strategies are there to support those things, not the other way around.
So we begin with what’s changed:
- Have your goals shifted in the last 6–12 months?
- Have you received a windfall — like an inheritance, bonus, or house sale?
- Are you considering early retirement, a sabbatical, or a move abroad?
- Have your children become more independent (or less)?
- Has your spending pattern changed — for better or worse?
These aren’t small talk questions. They’re at the heart of good planning. Even modest changes — like a pay rise or the desire to cut back hours — can ripple through your plan and alter what’s optimal for you.
Your financial plan should evolve as you do. The annual review is our opportunity to catch those changes early.

We Revisit (and Refine) the Plan
Every GSI client has a tailored financial plan. For some, that’s retirement at 60. For others, it’s protecting their legacy or building up investment reserves for children.
During your review, we:
- Reassess your lifetime cashflow forecast, including income, expenditure, and potential risks
- Measure progress toward your goals — are you on track, ahead, or needing course correction?
- Adjust for macro changes — inflation, interest rates, tax rules, property values
- Stress-test the plan against realistic worst-case scenarios (e.g. market crash, job loss, early death)
We’re not looking to re-engineer your entire plan every year. Often, small tweaks make a big difference — topping up your pension, adjusting your investment contributions, or redirecting spare cash into a more efficient vehicle.
Think of this as a pilot re-checking the flight plan. You might still be heading to the same destination, but if the wind has changed, we’ll help you correct the course.
-
We Review Your Investments — In Context
Of course, we also talk about your portfolio — but we do it differently.
We’re not here to chase top-performing funds or jump on the latest trend. Instead, we focus on whether your investments are doing what they need to do for you.
That means:
- Reviewing your portfolio’s performance relative to your objectives (not just a benchmark)
- Understanding how much risk you’ve taken to achieve those returns
- Checking whether your current asset allocation is still appropriate — across equities, bonds, cash, and alternatives
We’ll also discuss:
- Fund changes — Has the manager changed? Has the fund strayed from its original mandate?
- Charges — Are your investments cost-efficient?
- Tax efficiency — Are you using your ISA, pension and capital gains allowances effectively?
Importantly, we explain all of this in plain English. Behind the scenes, we’ve already done the technical analysis — so in the meeting, you get clarity, not confusion.
-
We Talk About Opportunities and Threats
The review isn’t just a snapshot of where you are — it’s a look ahead.
We scan for:
Opportunities
- Can you maximise your ISA or pension allowances this year?
- Are there ways to improve your inheritance tax planning?
- Could you invest surplus cash more tax-efficiently?
- Are there market opportunities worth considering — e.g. changes in interest rates or gilts?
Risks
- Are you over-exposed to a single stock or sector?
- Do you have adequate protection (e.g. life cover, income protection)?
- Are there known future liabilities (e.g. school fees, care costs) that need planning?
We’re always thinking two steps ahead — so you don’t have to constantly worry about what might be around the corner.
-
We Give You Space to Ask — and Dream
The review is your time, not ours.
So we make space for you to:
- Ask questions
- Seek clarification
- Talk through scenarios
What if you want to retire at 58 instead of 63? Could you afford to take a year out and travel? What if you downsized and helped your children with a house deposit?
We can model these “what if” scenarios in real time. It turns abstract dreams into clear financial possibilities — and lets you make confident decisions about your future.
What You Leave With
By the end of your review, you’ll have:
- A clear understanding of where you stand financially
- A refreshed view of your plan and progress
- A list of practical next steps (some for you, some for us)
We follow up with a written summary — covering key updates, agreed actions, and any changes to your plan or portfolio.
It’s not just a meeting. It’s a reset point — a moment to pause, reflect, and make sure your money is still working for the life you want.
Why Reviews Matter
Even if you’re not making big changes, the review remains essential. Here’s why:
- It keeps your plan alive and up-to-date
- It catches issues before they become problems
- It gives you confidence during turbulent times
- It ensures your financial decisions are anchored to your values
Most of all, it gives you permission to stop worrying. When you know someone is looking out for the bigger picture, you can focus on living well — not second-guessing the markets or wondering whether you’re “doing enough”.
That’s what we’re here for.
Plan well. Live happy.
Your financial review isn’t just about your money — it’s about making sure your life is on track.
